World Bank, sharing the concerns of the developing
countries, has been assisting the development and modernization
of the Technician Training in the country. The Bank has already
executed two such assistance projects and it is finally in the 3rd
project of its kind, that the State of Jammu & Kashmir alongwith
the 7 North-Eastern States have been able to receive the World Bank
Assistance.
After hectic negotiations with the World Bank,
the Project titled 'Tech. Ed-III Project (CR 3413 - IN)' with a
total cost of Rs 64.746 Crores for the J&K State @ Rs 44.635
per US $ as on 26-06-2001 (subject to revision depending upon Rupee-US$
exchange rate) was signed by the Project States / Government of
India with IDA/World Bank on October 18th 2000 at New Delhi. The
Project had a Retro-active/Pre-project period from 18th October
99 to 17th October 2000.
Regular Project Expenditure is being made
for a period of 5 years from 18th October 2000 to ending June 2006.
The project cost has now been revised to
Rs.72 crores and two new Polytechnics at Leh and Kargil shall also
received World Bank Assistance of Rs.8 Crores each. These Polytechnics
shall start functioning from the year 2005-2006. Following Course
shall be offered in these Polytechnics:
Government Polytechnic, Kargil
